Some aspects of the car are
very unusual – the rear deck is high and so the rear elevation is
remarkably deep and aggressive, you might say that this is a strange
combination with the rather more elusive and modern stylish Ferrari
nose, but then you can’t see the front and rear of the 458 Italia
simultaneously.
The whole idea of this feature is to reduce the
visual height of the boot lid (which has to cover the folding roof);
Overall, this is a striking car, even though in my opinion from the
front it does have a slight resemblance of the Audi R8.
We have
been told by our (local Malaga dealer) that the gearbox will be improved
and the car will be considerably quicker than its counterpart the F430.

MERCEDES SLS AMG
The brands Mercedes-Benz and AMG have
joined forces to create the SLS AMG– which is set in my opinion to
become one of the most alluring sports cars of all time. Mercedes say
“Our customers will experience with the SLS AMG the expertise of
Mercedes-AMG, built up over 40 years of motor racing. The unrivalled
technology package delivers outstanding driving dynamics coupled with
moderate fuel consumption figures – part and parcel of the modern-day
AMG."
The styling of the new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG makes it a
very beautiful car, no matter which angle you look from, it’s looks that
very bit more special because of the exclusive gullwing doors that were
made famous fifty years ago by the Mercedes 300 SL. You could describe
this car as the pure-bred classic sports car of tomorrow . Embodying a
blend of accomplished automotive allure with high tech, this very
special sports car delivers a gripping mix of purist styling, consistent
lightweight design and superior driving dynamics. At the same time, the
SLS fully lives up to all the expectations of the brand name Mercedes
Benz with everyday practicality and optimum safety. In heart, the new
'Gullwing' offers the ideal combination of the strengths of
Mercedes-Benz and the racing background of AMG.
It has an
aluminium space frame body with Gullwing doors, AMG 6.3-litre V8
front-mid engine developing 420 kW/ 571 bhp peak output, 650 Nm of
torque and dry sump lubrication, seven-speed dual-clutch transmission in
a transaxle configuration, sports suspension with aluminium double
wishbones and a kerb weight of 1620 kilograms. The ideal front/rear
weight distribution of 47 to 53 percent and the vehicle's low centre of
gravity are testimony to the uncompromising sports car concept. Now how
fast is she you might ask? Well, the 'Gullwing' accelerates from 0 to
100 km/h in 3.8 seconds, before going on to a top speed of 317 km/h
(electronically limited). Is that fast enough for you?
Ok
amazing, but what’s the fuel consumption like then? Funny enough fuel
consumption of 13.2 litres per 100 kilometres (combined) puts it well at
the front of the competitive field.
This figures above more
than represents the very best that AMG have ever built, In fact, this is
the first clean sheet AMG car in the 40 years of AMG's existence,
meaning it was not based on any current platform.
I mentioned
safety right at the beginning of this article as safety now plays a
major part in any new designed car, and in this car it is again miles
ahead of its competitors. The SLS AMG comes with eight airbags –
two-stage adaptive front airbags and knee airbags for the driver and
passenger, as well as side airbags in the outer seat cushions to protect
chest and arms and, for head protection, window airbags that deploy
upward from the door sill.
The exhaust note is just right, you
hear the beast under the hood, but it does not drone or roar you into a
weary state as this is a Benz after all, so luxury is an important
component of the vehicle no matter its performance capabilities.
